About Mogens Dahl

Mogens Dahl’s musical career started at the piano in the home in Thisted with his mother playing and he and his five siblings singing. On concluding his studies Mogens Dahl passed his conductor’s exam in 1982. That was the beginning of an interesting career as a conductor for a number of choirs and orchestras. Mogens Dahl has been an influence for many future conductors in his time as an associate professor at the department of music at the University of Aalborg from 1982 to 2006. As conductor and choirmaster at Den Jyske Opera 1991-2006 he took a big step forward on the Danish stage.

A musical pioneer

Mogens Dahl was raised in a musical home. His mother was a nurse and a very musical person. When she sat down at the piano Mogens Dahl stood in front of his flock of siblings and led the singing. And together with his five siblings, he played in brass bands and performed around the home region of Thy during his entire childhood.

So it was no coincidence that Mogens Dahl went on to choose an education within music.
In 1980 he graduated from the Musicology Department at Aarhus University and as early as in 1983 he made his conducting degree from the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus.
Right from the outset, Mogens Dahl has been an innovator and a pioneer within the Danish choir scene. In 1982 he founded the Royal Academy Chamber Choir, and since then he has been a key player in the development of the choir scene in all of Scandinavia.

From 1991 Mogens Dahl was the artistic director of the National Opera Chorus, where he has conducted works such as Rossini: The Barber of Seville (1998), Mozart: Don Giovanni (1999), the premiere of Lars Johan Werle’s choir opera: Pandora’s Box (2000), Weyse: An Adventure in Rosenborg Garden (2002) and Franz Lehár: The Merry Widow (2003) leading all the regional orchestras in Denmark. He has also conducted numerous TV and radio productions and theatrical productions at venus such as Aarhus Theatre, The Other Opera, Staatstheater Kassel Opernhaus, The Funen Opera and the Stockholm Opera.

Like so many other entrepreneurs, Mogens Dahl does not like to stand still. So when the opportunity to create a Mogens Dahl Koncertsal came, the ideas were already standing in line in his mind. And they still do. Today Mogens Dahl is thus able to invite you into a concert hall in rapid development where high-profile concerts, lectures and singalong musical experiences for business and conferences in creative surroundings are just some of the experiences that the audience can enjoy within the intimate setting.

Mogens Dahl is also the conductor of the critically acclaimed Mogens Dahl Chamber Choir.
